The call came in while I was sitting in the church parking lot on a beautiful Sunday morning. My father-in-law told me four words that would forever change my life: Your husband has died.Who expects to be a widow at 32? Our entire lives were ahead of us. There were dreams to accomplish, plans to achieve and a lifetime of love to exchange.
It’s been 5 years since that fateful day and though I’ll forever grieve the loss of my hubby, the dark cloud has finally lifted and there are now more bursts of sunshine.
There’s an Iyanla Vanzant quote that says, “When you stand and share your story in an empowering way, your story will heal you and your story will heal someone else”. I came to find out how very true that was when I shared my widowed story for the first time publicly on The Huffington Post. The response was overwhelming and I’ve truly found my voice writing about topics of relevance to widows.
